Object description :

"Louis XV Plaque"
Refined Louis XV plaque from Naples, dating back to the mid-18th century. This circular plaque, made of gilded and finely embossed copper, depicts the Madonna with the Child Jesus and the Infant Saint John the Baptist, a typical expression of 18th-century Marian devotion. The composition is distinguished by the elegance of the figures and the sweetness of the faces, framed by radiant halos, a symbol of sanctity. The scene is set in a fine contemporary frame of carved and gilded wood in the Louis XV style, of Neapolitan manufacture, adorned with floral motifs and rosettes at the corners, with a richly carved frieze and central pendant. The entire piece reflects the Rococo taste for the balance between sacredness and ornamental decoration.
