This painting depicts the Virgin and Child in a Northern landscape, with a town behind. The group of the Madonna and Child is influenced by the works of the Flemish painter Gerard David (c.1455-1523), and the painting probably dates from around 1580. Interesting piece, the paint layer covered by discoloured old varnish, and some small blisters and damages to painting and frame. Would benefit from a restoration, which will reveal the original colouring.
