Daum Talking Goblet Vase

Miniature goblet vase. Proof in green tinted glass in the mass and acid-etched with decoration of mistletoe branches, enhanced with gold and the fruits enhanced with white enamel on a granite background. The neck and base are finished in gold. The vase is said to be "speaking" with the motto engraved in gold: "Au gui l'an neuf". This formula, mainly in use at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, served as a traditional wish in France, expressing wishes for happiness and prosperity for the new year. Mistletoe, a symbol of luck and renewal, reinforced this benevolent intention.
