This 17th-century painting depicts one of the most famous episodes in the Book of Tobit: the young Tobit, accompanied by the Archangel Raphael, holding the miraculous fish.

During his journey, Raphael ordered Tobit to capture this fish, whose entrails would be used to cure his father's blindness and deliver his future wife from a demon.

The fish thus became a symbol of healing, salvation, and victory over dark forces. In Christian language, it also refers to Christ, the bringer of life and redemption. Here, the artist succeeds in intensely capturing this spiritual dimension: Raphael, the heavenly guide, accompanies the child on a mission where faith and hope unite.
