Sold framed Precursor of the Barbizon school Dimensions 49 cm by 44 cm Highly rated painter About François Antoine Léon Fleury (1804 1858) was born on December 18, 1804 in Paris. He was the son of the painter Antoine-Claude Fleury (ca. 1774-1824) and Louise Marguerite Angebert (ca. 1779-1853). He entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris on March 8, 1821, where his teachers were the landscape painters Jean-Victor Bertin and Louis Hersent. He stayed in Italy from 1827 to 1830. On December 14, 1830, he married Louise Madeleine Julienne Guillet in Paris. From 1831 to 1855, he sent his paintings to the Salon. He ran a studio where several disciples, including Camille Bernier, would train. He was influenced by the Barbizon School, in imitation of which he took views of the Fontainebleau forest as his subject.
