"Meissen. Porcelain Figure Potter From The Series Of Artisans"
Porcelain figure Potter (Töpfer) from the Craftsmen series. Model created by Johann Joachim Kaendler and Peter Reinicke in 1750 depicts a man seated at a potter's wheel making pottery on an elaborate Rococo scroll base outlined in gilt. Marked with blue crossed swords and numbered 1391. The Craftsmen were among the largest and most complex of Kändler's series. It comprised about eighteen figures, mostly men, reflecting the fact that most 18th-century craftsmen's guilds and associations were formed. The figures are usually simply colored, without elaborate patterns on their clothing, to realistically reflect the status of their craft. These figures are not very common and this model is in perfect condition.
