Georges Marie Julien Girardot was born in Besançon, in the Doubs, on August 4, 1856. He was trained by the artist Albert Maignan in Paris. Girardot was active in Paris, painting mainly genre paintings, female nudes and landscapes. From 1882, he exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes Français. He received an honorable mention in 1893 for The Hunt, a third-class medal in 1896 for The Sermon and the Miracles of Saint Maximin, and a second-class medal in 1907 for The Gods Are Gone. He was a full member of the Society of French Artists from 1883 until his death. From 1907, he was also an associate member of the Academy of Sciences, Belles-Lettres and Arts of Besançon and Franche-Comté.
