Period: Mid-19th century (circa 1850-1870)
Frame: Carved wood gilded with pure gold leaf, in 19th-century Baroque style, richly decorated with leafy scroll motifs and angelic heads at the corners, workmanship of great craftsmanship.
The painter demonstrates excellent execution: the soft modeling of the faces, the warm colors, and the sense of familiar intimacy maintain the spirit of Raphael. The rendering of the draperies, particularly the Virgin's red robe and the swaddling cloth around the Child, directly recalls Renaissance iconography but filtered through 19th-century taste.
