Statue of the Virgin and Child – Directoire period (late 18th – early 19th century) Beautiful religious representation in carved and polychrome wood, gilded with leaf. The Virgin is depicted standing, dressed in a long golden cloak with soft folds, holding the Child Jesus on her left arm. The latter, wearing a crown, holds the terrestrial globe, symbol of his universal sovereignty. The sculpture rests on a base decorated with a Marian monogram “M” and claw-shaped feet.
