"Roger Jacques (1920-2001), Large Stoneware Bottle, Signed, 20th Century"
Large stoneware bottle with a deep red lid, signed underneath "R. Jacques". Model created around 1960/1965. 20th century Roger Jacques (1920-2001) Potter in Saint-Amand-En-Puisaye. Born in 1920, from a line of potters since the 18th century, it is quite naturally in Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye that 'the eleventh of the name without interruption in the trade', Roger Jacques continues the family tradition in the old pottery and castle of the sculptor and ceramist Paul Jeanneney, attached in 1922 by Albert, Jacques' father. Generous and proud of his profession, Roger Jacques did not hesitate to advise and help young people to settle in the profession as Jean-Michel Doix testifies. Sent by Bernard Leach to Roger Jacques, Anne Kjaersgaard spent 6 months in the workshop before settling in La Borne. The workshop closed upon Roger's death in 2001. In 2003, volunteers restored the Grand le Four, which had been unused since 1950. By revitalizing the pottery called 'Espace Céramique Jacques-Jeanneney', these enthusiasts defended and preserved the pottery heritage of Puisaye.
