"Gouache By André Delfau For La Somnambule, A Ballet By Balanchine"
Born in Paris, he studied Applied Arts and Fine Arts. He began his career in advertising and fashion design (Vogue), then devoted himself to painting, sets, and costumes for theater and shows. He worked for the Paris Opera, the Odéon Theater, as well as for the great ballets of the Marquis de Cuevas, the Comédie Française, the Sarah Bernhardt Theater, etc. Costume study for La Somnambule, music by Vittorio Rieti and Vincenzo Bellini in the 1948 version given by the Ballet du Marquis de Cuevas. The work is signed lower right and annotated on the back.
