French Empire gondola bed (lit bateau), first half of the 19th century, with uprights ending in swan heads.

The structure is in wood with mahogany veneer, with the warm reddish tones typical of French Empire furniture. The curved profile and solid sides give the piece the neoclassical monumentality of the Napoleonic taste.

The bed is designed to be dismantled: the headboard and footboard detach from the long side rails, and the whole structure is firmly secured with large antique screws tightened manually.

Complete with two cylindrical cushions and a lined fabric cover, all upholstered in red and ivory striped fabric. The mattress, custom-made by previous owners, rests directly on the wooden frame as originally intended, without a separate spring base.

Condition: the bed is stable and ready for use, with a fine period patina. Minor imperfections to the fabric and normal traces of use on the wood do not detract from the overall solidity or elegance.
