A large ivory netsuke depicting Kadori Myojin, carved with almost caricatural features, seated on the tail of Namazu.
According to Japanese legend, Namazu is a giant catfish that lives beneath the islands and causes earthquakes whenever it moves. To try to immobilize it, Kadori Myojin uses a large hyōtan (a hollow gourd used as a container).
