"Ceramics By Camille Moreau-nélaton, 19th Century"
This exceptional circular enameled ceramic dish is the work of Camille Moreau-Nélaton, an iconic French artist and ceramist from the second half of the 19th century. Born on August 17, 1840 in Paris, she is believed to have died on May 4, 1897 during the fire at the Bazar de la Charité. Wife of the collector Adolphe Moreau and mother of the famous painter and art historian Étienne Moreau-Nélaton, Camille established herself with a refined naturalist style and rare technical mastery in decorative art. Signed and dated 1886 by the artist, this work offers botanical representations with elder leaves in a spirit of Japanese research, her favorite theme, in vogue at the end of the century. It constitutes a remarkable example of the place of women in the revival of French decorative arts.
