Albert CRESSWELL (1879-1936): Couple near a tree; Oil on canvas signed lower left, 55 x 73 cmBorn in Paris in 1879, Painter of mythological subjects, genre scenes, portraits, landscapes. Student of Louis Boulanger, Luc Olivier Merson and especially of Jules Joseph Lefebvre. Professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Académie Julian, considered one of the representatives of academic art in France. He participated in the "Salon de Paris" from 1880 to 1929, obtaining several awards, including an honorable mention in 1892 and a third medal in 1907. He died in 1936.
