Jean Signovert was an abstract painter, draftsman, and printmaker associated with the Ecole de Paris. He was born in 1919 and died in 1981 in Paris. After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Étienne, he met Aimé Maeght in 1946, who exhibited his works in his gallery. He was also an engraver, working for and with Braque, Poliakoff, Arp, and Fautrier, among others. His painted works are characterized by plain backgrounds on which he places geometric shapes connected by lines. He was appointed professor at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1980, and died shortly after.
