Biography – Peter Oriešek (1941–2015)
Peter Oriešek was a Czech artist born in Hradec Králové in 1941. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, he later taught sculpture there for several decades.
His work, at the crossroads of figuration, fantasy, and expressionism, explores the human condition through hybrid, mythological, or allegorical figures. Active in both sculpture and etching, he addressed universal themes such as desire, sacrifice, and the duality of good and evil in his prints.
The engraving Faust (1987) is part of this symbolic research, depicting the pact with the devil as a metaphor for the quest for youth and knowledge.
