Burkina Faso, 20th century.
Mossi leather-sheathed doll, biga type. Brown stitched leather covering with disc-shaped head, braided leather cord with fringes. Used first as a girl’s play doll and later kept as a fertility charm associated with pregnancy.
Condition: age-related wear and marks to the leather; visible original stitching and good patina.
Size: H 28 cm; W 4.5 cm; D 6.5 cm.
