Oval Frame In Carved And Gilded Wood, With Foliage, Ears Of Corn And Shell, Italy?, 18th Century
Beautiful and decorative oval frame richly crafted with acanthus scrolls forming curves and counter-curves, ears of corn, and pearls. It is topped with a shell. There are old attacks from wood-eating insects and some losses, notably to the foliage in the upper right part. The glass is old and has beautiful irregularities which add to the charm of this baroque-style frame, probably made in Italy in the 18th century. Beautiful leaf gilding which reveals in places the red plate applied by the gilder.
