According to one of the translations, Pandora, after opening the box offered by Zeus, released into the world the misfortunes locked inside. At the last moment, she closed the lid, leaving hope on Earth.
Signature: Bouret.
Eutrope Bouret (1833-1906) - French sculptor trained under Louis Buhot. From 1875, he regularly exhibited his works at the French Salons and received a distinction in 1885. He readily addressed historical and mythological themes. He made his works in both bronze and marble.
France, 2nd half of the 19th century.
Patinated bronze.

Height of the figure alone: 38 cm.
