Object description :

"Set Of 4 Iron Garden Chairs By Gustave Serrurier-bovy For Serrurier Et Cie, 1903"
Belgium / 1903 / 4 garden chairs / iron / Art Nouveau

A set of four garden chairs by the famous Belgian architect and decorator Gustave Serrurier Bovy for Serrurier et Cie in 1903. This set features two chairs with armrests and two without. The white lacquered chairs are made of cast iron mounted with rivets on angles and have seats and backrests in perforated sheet.

All chairs are in authentic condition with original paint. Due to age the chairs have rust and peeling paint as shown on the pictures.

This chair has the typical sober elegance of the Art Nouveau style of Serrurier Bovy.
This chair is the only ‘garden furniture’ or ‘metal furniture’ mentioned in early advertisements found to date.

Gustave Nicolas Joseph Serrurier-Bovy (Liège 1858 – 1910) was a Belgian architect and furniture designer. Along with Paul Hankar, Victor Horta and Henry Van de Velde, he was one of the leading Art Nouveau architects.
