Rare Art Nouveau period example of a Garniture made of chased bronze signed by Giovanni Cariati known as "Gicar" (1865-1917). Born in Naples in 1865, he taught himself medal design from 1903 and organized exhibitions in Paris in 1906 and Milan in 1909 before moving to America to New York in 1912 where he died on June 22, 1917. He persuaded the American Numismatic Society to hold an exhibition of his work which opened on December 11, 1912. A catalog was published by the Society (see 101 below).
