The Old Paintings Seascapes, Landscape Paintings category features a seascape, oil on canvas, depicting

a seascapeat sunset or twilight, two sailboats with fishermen aboard, preparing for fishing.

In the background, other sails and smaller boats can be glimpsed dotting the horizon.

The painter depicts a diffuse silvery light, the golden reflection of the setting sun,

reflected on the calm waters of the sea, conveying calm and poetry. Early 20th century.

Veristic naturalism typical of the Neapolitan school of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The painting is presented in a beautiful original gilded frame, contemporary with the original.

The work is dated 1919 and signed lower right by Fausto Pratella, an Italian painter known for his

seascapes, port views, and scenes of popular life inspired by the Neapolitan painting tradition.

Fausto Pratella (1886 – 1964) was born in Naples, the son of Attilio Pratella (Lugo di Romagna, 1856 – Naples, 1949),

an important naturalist painter who moved to Naples, where he became a leading figure of the Posillipo School and

Neapolitan Verism. Fausto learned the art from his father, but developed his own independent and original work.

The antique frame and canvas have been carefully and professionally restored.

So, Landscape Paintings, Seascape with Sunset, Fausto Pratella, Oil Painting on Canvas,

Early 20th Century, Neapolitan School are part of the Bisgart Collection.

The painting can be viewed at our showroom, where you can admire many other ancient works.
