Flat locket, marked US with SPRINGFIELD partially erased.
Breech marked US MODEL 1873, stamped with the bald eagle and serial number 1679.
Wooden mount, marked 16 and inspection stamp. Stamped capuchins.
Original iron ramrod.
This rifle, designed by Erskine S. Allin based on the Springfield Model 1861 rifle, is characterized by a new breech mounted at the rear of the barrel. Its similarity to a hinged trapdoor gave it the nickname “trap door.”

Good overall condition. Perfect mechanics. Mirror barrel. 30% bluing.
