Elegant antique double knife set in its original silver scabbard, dating to the late 19th – early 20th century, originating from Laos or Northern Thailand (Lanna region).
The scabbard and ferrules are richly decorated in repoussé and chased silver, featuring intricate foliate patterns and the striking image of the three-headed elephant (Airavata / Erawan), a powerful royal and religious symbol associated with Indra, the king of the gods. This emblem was also the heraldic symbol of the Kingdom of Laos.
Each knife is fitted with a steel blade and a hilt made from naturally curved stag antler tips, mounted with silver collars finely engraved in harmony with the sheath. The pair fits securely into the silver scabbard, which is slightly conical in form and entirely covered in traditional ornament. There is a small dent at the end of the scabbard - see photo.
