The Ancient Paintings category features a Beautiful Portrait of a Woman, an Elegant Lady Sewing,
an oil painting on panel from the 19th century. This is a quality old master portrait,
of a woman seated and sewing in a 19th-century setting.
The old master work is signed on the lower right C. Pecrus, a French painter of genre paintings,
portraits, animals, landscapes, and marine paintings.
Charles François Pécrus (1826–1907), a French painter, was born in Limoges but moved to Paris where he worked
on the Études des Ponts-et-Chaussées. He then continued studying at the École des Beaux-Arts, under the tutelage of
Eugène Fichel and Javet. He began exhibiting at theSalon des Artistes Français from 1857 until 1905,
where he was highly regarded for his genre scenes and portraits of women.
In 1865, his work "Le lendemain des noces" (The Day After the Wedding)was purchased by Emperor Napoleon III.
He frequented important artists such as Narcisse-Diaz de la Peña of the Barbizon movement, became friends with Eugène Boudin,
and with Jongkind and Alfred Stevens. From 1885, he devoted himself almost entirely to free Impressionist painting.
Some of his paintings are found invarious French museums: the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée de Limoges, the Musée de Reims,
the Musée de Cherbourg, and the Musée de Honfleur.
The antique painting is framed in pure gold leaf from the 19th century. French Antique.
The frame and oil painting have been carefully and professionally restored.
