"Berber Words And Things. E. Laoust. 1920. Sent By The Author. "
Emile Laoust (1876-1952) was a linguist specializing in the Berber dialects of North Africa, who devoted his career to collecting, while traveling from Egypt to Morocco, the cultural elements of an original civilization pre-existing the Muslim conquest, jealously preserving its linguistic particularities, with a resilience that commands respect. He was called upon in 1913 to teach by General Lyautey. This book, published in 1920, constitutes a general synthesis of his knowledge in many fields. It should be noted that the work bears a very respectful handwritten dedication dated 1919. This elegant manner, since the work was published in 1920, reasonably suggests that this dedication is the first, and therefore intended for the Resident General himself. It is bound in a so-called amateur binding in Casablanca, by the Librairie Farairre (which still exists), in a deep blue kid, which symbolizes Morocco. Excellent original condition. 531 pages
