Important Griffin Console With Marble Top, Naples Circa 1800
Two griffins carved in relief support the rectangular top in Rosso di Verona marble. Both the griffins and the frame are painted in patinated bronze. The console has a unique and authentic patina dating back to the early 19th century. Neoclassical wooden consoles are rare. They are inspired by marble consoles, which, due to the material used, further emphasize the architectural component. This wooden console also achieves this effect, as the bronze patina manages to mask the character of the wood.
