"Georges Maroniez (douai 1865-paris 1933) "the Opal Coast" Oil On Wood Panel, 1888."
Georges, Philibert, Charles Maroniez (Douai 1865- Paris 1933) attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Douai and was a student of Mr and Mrs Demont, with whom he discovered the landscapes of the Opal Coast. From 1887, he appeared in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member from 1889. At the same time, he carried out several activities: examining magistrate, engineer; he invented several cameras which allowed him to capture seascapes and fishing scenes, and to transpose them onto his paintings. He will be considered a good painter of the sea (a term he did not appreciate) This oil on wood panel that we offer is signed lower right G.Maroniez, dated 1888 and bears a dedication on the back;
it represents a seaside of the Opal Coast in a soft light with the limestone cliffs in the background
Oil in good condition, cleaned and presented in an old wooden and gilded stucco frame.
