A Fine Early 19th Century George III Period Mahogany Folding Butler's Tray on Original Stand

This elegant early 19th-century mahogany butler's tray is a wonderful example of craftsmanship and design from the George III period. Made from high-quality Cuban mahogany, the tray features a rectangular panel with four folding sides, each secured with inset brass hinges. The sides are equipped with fret-cut carrying handles, allowing for easy maneuverability. The tray rests on a beautifully turned mahogany stand. The stand and tray share a matching quality and color, suggesting they have been together since their creation around 1800. Originally, butler's trays like this were used by household staff to serve drinks, tea, or cakes in the drawing room. The maid would set up the folding stand, and the tray would be placed on top for convenient serving. Today, these trays make perfect tall side tables, ideal for a dining or drawing room. They can be particularly effective when placed across a corner, softening the room's angles. This specific tray, with its superb size, quality, and elegant stand, is a prime example of its kind.
