Sofa with a high, straight back, in carved, white lacquered wood, richly decorated with applied gilt motifs. The whole features typical Empire period ornamentation, composed of palmettes, foliage, and neoclassical decorative elements.
The curved armrests extend into a straight belt resting on saber-shaped hind legs and straight front legs. The back and seat are upholstered in deep blue damask cotton in perfect condition.

This sofa perfectly illustrates the imperial aesthetic, combining architectural rigor and decorative richness. The ornamentation – palmettes, stylized foliage, interlacing friezes – evokes the creations of famous cabinetmakers such as François-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter or Pierre Benoît Marcion, official suppliers to the imperial palaces.
A pair of chairs stamped P.Marcion, re-edged in white and gold, composed of similar ornamentation, came from the Château des Tuileries. Empire period 1804-1815.

Beautifully preserved.
Some wear from use.
Perfectly stable seat.
