Sorrento Marquetry Bookends, 19th Century, Sorrento Bookends.

Very beautiful adjustable bookend, decorated in marquetry of colored woods of different tones is of great finesse. It represents swallows on the sides surrounded by branches and bunches of vines. In the center a female figure astride the back of a donkey, holding a child in her arms. The central scene is surrounded by grotesques. This model has extensions that can be pulled on each side. Sorrento, Italy, late 19th century. Note: this bookend is in very good general condition. One of the extensions is a little more difficult to unfold than the other, it might be a good idea to put a little paraffin on it to make them slide perfectly. A tiny screw is missing (no visible impact on the back photo). Please look at the photos carefully.
