Iranian rug, Fars region (southwest Iran) wool, wool warp and weft, circa 1920. Normal condition of use throughout the rug, given its age. Restored borders and stop stitches. Some old restorations.

This Kenareh-sized Shiraz Gashghai is typical of 19th and early 20th century creations. On a patinated red field, a multitude of floral, boteh and zoomorphic motifs are represented. An asymmetrical central medallion and four spandrels feature göls (flower) motifs. Despite its age, this rug remains solid.
