Arturo Faldi (Florence 1856-1911)
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, where his teachers were Giovanni Muzzioli and Michele Gordigiani. Until 1880, he focused on historical-mythological genre painting.
In 1881, with La trecciaiuola, he moved away from this genre and toward the style of the Macchiaioli. Following the success of the painting, exhibited under the title Paysanne d'Italie at the Paris Salon, he continued to focus on realistic subjects, often focusing on the relationship between peasant labor and nature.
Two of his paintings were honored by King Umberto I: Honeymoon, donated to the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Turin, and God Accompany Them, donated to the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome. Today, they are in the office of the First President of the Court of Cassation. In the final years of his life, he taught and was president of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence.
