Beautiful work, with strong contrast, by the painter Gustave Vidal which represents the rue du clocher in the Provençal village of Ramatuelle on the peninsula of Saint-Tropez in the Var. We can see, in the foreground, two figures going up the street leading to the village bell tower.
The artist has perfectly transcribed the different shades of color and the play of light of a summer day in Provence.
Student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Avignon under the direction of the painter Pierre Grivolas who will encourage his students including Gustave Vidal to go and paint outdoors. He was influenced by the new Avignon school and abstract painters. His style, clean, mixes knife technique and pictorial stylization.
He received numerous awards from his beginnings, and exhibited throughout the world.
Dimensions: 65 x 50 cm without frame and 75.5 x 60 cm with its original gilded wood frame.
