"Royal Belgian Red Marble Sideboard, Attributed To Jean Patoret, Lyon Circa 1850"
Rare piece of furniture with support height in royal red marble from Belgium, rounded uprights in columns topped with capitals in gray marble. This piece of furniture is undoubtedly unique and was made by Jean Patoret, a sculptor from Lyon in the second half of the 19th century. He collaborated in particular on the ornamentation of the Fourvière basilica and the creation of the Lion of Judah alongside Charles Dufraine. Three other pieces of furniture were apparently commissioned by the State to furnish its ministries. Provenance: Family of the artist. A marble bust representing Antoine-Marie Bertrand, Mayor of Lyon 1793-1794 by Jean Patoret is kept in the Galerie des Lyonnais at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Lyon. Unusual piece of furniture.
