Description:
Elegant female portrait executed by Spanish painter Félix Pescador y Saldaña, known for his portraiture skills and for working for European aristocracy. The work depicts Marie de la Rochemacé, a young noblewoman belonging to the prestigious de la Rochemacé family, an illustrious lineage of Brittany of very ancient origin, born of union with the noble Grigoyen lineage.
The figure is depicted in a half-length, formal but delicate pose, looking towards the viewer. Marie wears an evening gown of light blue lace and tulle, with refined and finely painted transparencies. Attention to detail in the lacework, diaphanous complexion, and gentle, composed expression highlights the artist's painterly sensibility.
The neutral background enhances the figure, while the gilded oval frame, decorated with rich floral motifs in relief, lends additional nobility and importance to the portrait.
