Object description :

"Léon Jouhaud (1874-1950) Chemin De La Filature Limoges 1933. Peintre émailleur, Bichet, Crozant"
Superb pastel by Léon Jouhaud representing the path to the spinning mill in Limoges in April 1933, signed with the monogram lower right + dated lower left + located on the back. Dimensions without frame 16.5x12cm and 38x32cm including frame. This is therefore a new work by Léon Jouhaud, here a pastel, perhaps an enamel project where the artist represents his city of birth and heart Limoges and more precisely the path to the spinning mill in April 1933. As usual, he first makes a powerful drawing and then a coloring in the manner of the Fauves in shades of yellow, ochre, purple, vermilion red etc... I no longer present Léon Jouhaud, famous painter, enameler and ceralist from Limoges, student of his father-in-law Charles Bichet. He initially became a doctor, but encouraged by his friends Bichet, Thomas, and Alluaud, he abandoned his profession to devote himself to his passions: painting, enameling, and ceramics. Léon Jouhaud studied privately, passed his baccalaureate in 1892, and, with a passion for bacteriology, began studying medicine in Limoges and then in Paris. He practiced in his hometown from 1903 to 1906, then embarked on an artistic career in enameling, a long-standing local tradition. His early aesthetic, Neo-Impressionism, evolved toward popular or intimate scenes, with soft or cubist lines and bold colors. He shared many technical refinements with Camille Tharaud and created several porcelain pieces at home. Léon Jouhaud, who practiced painting at the same time as enamel, appeared, from 1910, at the exhibitions of the Society of Independent Artists and the Society of French Artists in Limoges and Paris; he exhibited pastel paintings as well as painted enamels (genre scenes, landscapes, still lifes). He also exhibited at the famous Parisian dealer Rouard alongside the greatest artists of the time. This pastel is in very good condition, delivered in an old leather frame. Work guaranteed authentic.
