Jacob de Wit was born in 1695 in Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
He became famous for his ceiling and overmantel paintings.
He lived in Amsterdam in the Keizersgracht district.
Many apartments in this district were decorated by Jacob De Wit, as evidenced by ceilings and doortops painted by the master. He also decorated the second homes of the noble families of Amsterdam, the buitenplaatsen, established in the vicinity of Haarlem or the Vecht river.
He also taught painting and had Jacob Xavery as a pupil.

He died in Amsterdam in 1754
