A model known as baroque or rococo, very richly decorated with leafy scrolls, foliage, and clasps; the head of the seal is adorned with lines of pearls and gadroons; the upper part surmounted by a rock crystal cut with a multitude of facets and shaped like a flattened sphere. The seal is marked with the initials MG, I believe (see photos).
On the edge of the seal head itself, the object bears a maker's mark accompanied by the initials G.A.S. for the famous silversmith Georg Adam Scheid (bibliography: “A Remarkable Viennese Silversmith” by Eric Schaling). Higher up, on the joint between the head and the shaft, there is a tiny import control hallmark, a weevil with the letter V. Please note that the photos do not do justice to the effect produced by the cut rock crystal.
Gross weight: 44.81 g.
