Greek-style Black-figure Vase, Grand Tour, Italy, Late 19th Century

Small amphora in ancient Greek style, richly decorated with all kinds of wild animals on two wide bands. The black tones dominate, but the red is very present and helps to give them relief. The ends of this very elegant vase are decorated with black geometric designs. Two black handles join below the thin neck and form a disc around it. This water amphora is in excellent condition and has an attractive patina with beautiful excavation concretion effects. It is surprisingly light.
