"19th Century Marble Statue "
Sculpture in carved white marble, signed Pietro Bazzanti (Florence, 19th century) at the base. The figure, depicted full-length, embodies an Amazon in an attitude both elegant and proud, holding a bow with her right arm raised. She wears a short chiton, typical of ancient warrior women, leaving one shoulder and right leg uncovered. At her feet rests a helmet, an explicit reference to the military world and the warrior character of the subject. The sculpture is distinguished by the fine workmanship of the folds of the garment and the anatomical details, characteristic of the expertise of the Bazzanti workshop, a famous 19th-century Florentine workshop, renowned for its production of works inspired by models of classical antiquity.
