1950s Design Armchair

Upholstered armchair with a high, contoured back, characterized by a sinuous and elegant line. The curved wooden armrests fit naturally into the frame, giving the seat a strong sculptural identity. The original upholstery is in beige damask fabric with a geometric pattern, typical of the bourgeois taste of the time.
The slender shape, the essential lines, and the sculptural interplay of the armrests recall the organic Italian design of the 1940s and 1950s, influenced by the experimental work of architects and designers such as Paolo Buffa, Guglielmo Ulrich, and Gio Ponti. These chairs were often made by Lombard or Neapolitan artisans based on architects' designs, to furnish elegant apartments and waiting rooms of professional offices.

Conservation status:
Good. The wooden frame appears intact and solid; the fabric shows signs of wear and discoloration, especially on the upper backrest. Any conservative restoration work could further enhance the piece.
