The Susse Frères Foundry is a historic French foundry primarily known for its production of bronze sculptures and decorations. Founded in 1839 by Auguste Susse, the company has distinguished itself for the high quality and refined design of its works, often characterized by elaborate details and great skill in bronze casting. During the Belle Époque, Susse Frères collaborated with several renowned artists, contributing to some of the most iconic sculptures of the era and reaching the height of his fame.

This pair of vases, made of yellow veined marble, features gilded bronze Ormolu decorations signed by the designer and stamped by the foundry with the number 38. The bronzes, among which the four satyr masks stand out, envelop and decorate the stems with elegant vegetal scrolls and acanthus leaves. An identical pair of vases, bearing the same signatures Becker and Susse Frères, but in pink veined marble, were sold at Christie's, London (19th Century Furniture, Sculpture, Works of Art and Ceramics including a Property from the Palazzo of a Milanese Noble Family, March 19, 2009, lot 87, for £22,500).
