"Kilim Caucasus. Circa 1880. 230 X 170 Cm"
Rarely, indigo blue is also present on the surface of a kilim and for good reason this highly sought-after shade happens to be the most expensive to produce. It is visually the primary characteristic of this dazzling piece. The composition in successive horizontal bands and the multiplication of ram's horns make us think of ancient Kazakh productions. Woven wool on wool in a traditional way. Fine and refined weaving, another characteristic of ancient Caucasian kilims. The piece is supple and light. We observe of course the meeting of two vertical bands sewn together, a distinctive sign of productions attributed to nomadic populations. The natural and vegetal shades shine over the entire surface offering depth and striking contrasts. It emerges through an instant reading, a real power, a strong presence which is illustrated spontaneously. It is a real painting to be placed on the ground!
