"Silver Ciborium, By François Caillat, Goldsmith, First Half Of The 19th Century "
Silver and gilt silver ciborium (cup) Resting on a circular base with a domed ogee, the ciborium is decorated with a bas-relief decoration, embossed and chased. The ornamentation presents plant symbols linked to the Eucharist, such as rushes, vines and ears of wheat, alternating with openwork, chased and guilloché medallions. These medallions represent biblical symbols: the triangle of the Trinity, the Tablets of the Law (ten commandments) and the Holy Bible emerging from the clouds. The stem, fitted with a knot in the shape of an inverted and massive pear, is decorated with twisted gadroons and palm leaves. It supports a straight-profile cup, set in a saucer reproducing the chiseled plant decoration present on the terrace. The dome-shaped lid is decorated with a corolla of palm leaves and topped with a cross.
