Vintage Wall Plaque By Gilbert Valentin (1928 -2001) Galarie Les Archanges - Valauris - Roses

The son of an artistic ironworker, Gilbert Valentin learned the techniques of iron and wood carving from a young age. In 1946, he discovered ceramics in Dieulefit, then continued his training at the École nationale de Vierzon (now Henri-Brisson high school) and at the Lunéville-Saint-Clément earthenware factory as a ceramic engineer. ???? The “Les Archanges” workshop in Vallauris In 1950, he moved to Vallauris, a center of ceramics, and founded the Les Archanges workshop with his wife Lilette. This workshop became a meeting place for many artists, including Pablo Picasso, Jacques Prévert, Georges Braque and Jean Cocteau, the latter becoming president of the Club des Archanges in 1960.
