Description:
Men’s wristwatch signed by Omega, Constellation model, in a highly collectible version dating from circa 1955–1958. This timepiece features an automatic chronometer-certified movement (Chronometer Officially Certified) with central hours, minutes and seconds. Part of Omega’s legendary Constellation line, renowned for its chronometric accuracy and luxurious construction.
Case:
Solid 18k yellow gold case with iconic lyre-shaped lugs. The screw-down case back bears the Constellation medallion depicting the Geneva Observatory surrounded by eight stars – a symbol of Omega’s chronometer status. The case is engraved “WATERPROOF” and remains in well-preserved condition with minor age-related wear.
Dial:
Original champagne-toned dial with a beautiful even patina, applied gold hour markers, and Arabic numerals at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. Original faceted dauphine hands and central seconds. Marked “Automatic Chronometer Officially Certified” under the applied Omega logo, and “Constellation” with the signature star at 6 o’clock.
Strap:
Black leather strap (later replacement) with an Omega-signed gold-tone tang buckle. Presented in its original Omega velvet-lined display box, a rare survivor in very good vintage condition.
Movement:
Likely Omega automatic Caliber 505 or 551 (requires confirmation upon opening), 24 jewels, COSC-certified chronometer. These calibers were manufactured at the peak of Omega’s precision watchmaking era in the mid-1950s.
Condition:
Very good overall condition. The movement runs well, the dial has a natural and even patina, and the case appears well-preserved and unpolished. Not tested for water resistance.
