"Alexander Ivanov 1950-1996 Lithograph Good Night"
Alexander Ivanov (1950 - 1996) Good Night Signed and numbered 82/350 With an interest in art from a young age, Ivanov began his studies at the Leningrad School of Art and Graphics at the age of 16 where he received classical training. Troubled by the social and political repression of self-expression in Russia during his 4th year of art school, he abandoned his studies to find inspiration in geographical expeditions. During his travels, Ivanov was inspired by traditional Russian art which can be seen throughout his work. He began exhibiting in small group exhibitions and secured his first one-man show in 1977, which opened and closed on the same day due to being shut down by officials. It was then that he began exhibiting in private apartments in Russia with underground art circles. In the late 1980s, several Moscow companies published illustrations and calendars of Ivanov's images, and his work was discovered by the German government, which invited him to participate in a Russian/German symposium. He was soon thereafter invited to exhibit in Holland and England. His work was subsequently discovered by galleries in America and Japan. Frame dimensions 48X56
