"Louis Gautier (aix En Provence 1855-1947) View 1917"
A student of Cabanel, Louis François Gautier exhibited at the Salon des artistes français in 1884 and participated in regional exhibitions in Aix, Avignon, Marseille and Montpellier. He was commissioned to design the decor for the town hall and the theatre in Aix-en-Provence. In 1894, with the painter Edouard Ducros, he founded the Société des amis des arts d'Aix, then in 1901, an ethnographic museum. He is also known as one of the fiercest opponents of the painter Paul Cézanne. His works are preserved in particular at the Musée Granet.
